At Hildebrand Law Office, P.C., our law firm is passionate about bringing families together through adoption or surrogacy. If you have plans to adopt, here is a brief timeline of what you can expect.

Important Milestones in the Adoption & Surrogacy Process [infographic]

  1. Research & Education – This is your opportunity to learn more about the different types of adoption. Identify what type fits your family best before moving forward. If you choose to work with us, we can help you with a private adoption or a DFCS adoption.
  2. Application Submission – Complete your application for adoption, providing your personal information and preferences. At this point, we will review your information and let you know if any additional information is needed.
  3. Home Study – You will need to undergo interviews, background checks, and home evaluations. Following this process, your home study report will be approved as long as no problems are unearthed.
  4. Matching Phase – Now you wait for a child to be matched with you based on your preferences and the recommendations of those involved. This process can take anywhere from a few months to over a year.
  5. Legal Paperwork – Once you are matched with a child, we can prepare all necessary documentation, including consent forms and legal agreements.
  6. Child Placement – With all the needed support, you will transition the child into your home.
  7. Finalization Hearing – If the placement is a good fit, you will attend a court hearing to finalize the adoption legally. You will then obtain an adoption decree, granting you legal parenthood.

Remember that every adoption journey is unique, and timelines may vary based on your individual circumstances and legal requirements. We specialize in private adoptions and DFCS adoptions and are happy to answer any questions you have about either. Contact our law firm today for more information.
